Abstract

This article aims to analyze the theme of childhood and adolescence in the book Salvar o Fogo, by Itamar Vieira Junior, relating the issues faced by the fictional characters, which describes the reality of many children and adolescents in Brazil. The novel, set on the banks of the Paraguaçu River, in the region of Recôncavo da Bahia, tells the story of Moisés, who lives with his father, Mundinho, and his sister Luzia, and, when narrating their lives, he goes through countless situations of violations of rights. In parallel, a parameter was made of the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s performance in these themes. The methodology used is legal-
-literary, which explores the interdisciplinarity between law and literature. In conclusion, the representation of the work in Salvar o Fogo contributes to the understanding of the vulnerabilities to which children and adolescents are subjected in Brazil, especially in municipalities with greater lack of assistance from the care network, as well as the consequences of this in the lives of the characters, which reflect the lives of real people.
